Excerpt for Mother of the Dragons

Something was in the cave, which was all he knew. What
or who was another thing. Harrison had always loved
adventures and the noise he heard coming from inside the
dark tomb pulled him in to investigate. His imagination revealed
strange creatures from other planets. He paused to laugh at himself.
What was he thinking? He wasn’t a child anymore—aliens? It wasn’t
aliens but what—what could be making those sounds? He never heard
of any human who could make sounds like that. So if it wasn’t a
human, who could be making those strange sounds?
He cautiously walked toward the cave as he looked back at the
ocean waves beating against the sand in hopes to wake the sleeping or
maybe even the dead. Harrison smiled as a breeze gently kissed him
on the cheek, comforting him for a moment. He stopped for only that
moment as he turned to face the darkness awaiting him inside the
rocky cavern. Would this be an adventure he would always remember
or just something to kill the time only to forget it once it was finished?
Only time would tell and he didn’t care which it would be. An
adventure was just that and he could never have too many. There were
no adventures too small or too big for him.
He pressed forward when he heard the noise again. What dared
him to enter the forbidden temple of darkness? He was certain that he
had never heard anything like it before, yet at the same time, it
sounded familiar some how and couldn’t understand it.
Uncharted territory always promised him the greatest
adventures so when he discovered this cave and heard the noise
coming from within, it wasn’t a mystery that he could resist. The
mystery and possible danger in that intrigued him though he didn’t
know why. He was alone in his family to have these desires and felt as
though he didn’t belong to his parents but it never let him down for
such feelings. Instead, Harrison embraced the difference.
As Harrison inched his way deeper into the unknown, the wind
sang a soothing lullaby in his ears as it ran in and out of the opening.
He stepped into the mouth of the cavern and stopped to look around
the massive space. His heart raced with anticipation, feeling desperate
to know what was luring him into the darkness.
